B&L: Gender perspective in health: presentation of the XWHIN network

Incorporating the sex and gender perspective in health research and innovation is key to moving towards more inclusive research and responding to the specific needs of women.

In this Breakfast&Learn session   we will learn about the  XWHIN (Women’s Health Innovation Network) R&D Network , its objectives and main lines of action to boost innovation in women’s health and promote the incorporation of the sex and gender perspective in research and innovation.

In addition, we will have  Dr. Maria J. Portella , member of the TECSAM Network, who will present a practical case on how to incorporate this perspective into health research and innovation projects, based on her experience.

During the session we will address:

• The XWHIN Network:  what it is, why it was created and what it is doing to promote innovation in women’s health, including the training plan, project support, the call, the community and upcoming events.
• The sex and gender perspective in research and innovation:  why it is important to incorporate it and how it can contribute to generating knowledge and innovation that is more appropriate to the needs of the population.
• Case study:  Dr. Maria J. Portella will show, based on her experience, how to incorporate the sex and gender perspective into research and innovation, with special attention to the field of mental health.
• Collaboration between networks: the TECSAM Gender Working Group  will be briefly presented   as an example of collaboration and generation of shared knowledge.

With:

– Alicia González Otero:  coordinator of the  XWHIN Network (Women’s Health Innovation Network)  at the Sant Pau Research Institute. Graduated in Biotechnology, with a master’s degree in Translational Biomedical Research and an MBA. She currently coordinates the XWHIN Network, which brings together 38 entities and aims to drive innovation in women’s health and promote the incorporation of the sex and gender perspective in research and innovation.

– Dr. Maria J. Portella:  Senior researcher and head of the Mental Health Research Group at the Sant Pau Research Institute and researcher at  CIBERSAM . She will address, through a practical case, how to incorporate the sex and gender perspective in health research and innovation.

The session will end with an open space for questions and conversation, facilitated by the TECSAM Network.
