Tips and practical knowledge on personal data management

With Coral Navarro, IP Consultancy Specialist at ClarkeModet

05 November, 2025

In the November B&L session , we had Coral Navarro Fernández , IP Consultancy Specialist at ClarkeModet and data protection expert , who shared the main challenges and good practices to ensure responsible and ethical management of personal data in research projects .

During the session, Coral Navarro highlighted the importance of applying common sense and logic when managing sensitive information, recalling that “the regulations do not seek to complicate, but rather to protect the people behind the data.”

Key ideas of the session

  • Informed consent must be clear, specific and detailed: it must explain exactly what will be done with the data, how it will be processed and with whom it will be shared.
  • Anonymized data is no longer subject to protection regulations, but prior consent must be obtained before starting the anonymization process.
  • The data retention period must be defined and justified: it must be reasonable and consistent with the purpose of the project (minimum of five years in the medical field).
  • It is essential to apply robust anonymization or pseudonymization techniques , with several layers of protection to prevent any re-identification.

The session highlighted that privacy, transparency and coherence are fundamental pillars for conducting quality research in compliance with current regulations.

A very enriching meeting for all research professionals who work with sensitive data and are looking for tools to do so with rigor and responsibility.
