Reminiscence therapy to prevent and/or slow cognitive deterioration in the elderly
REMI provides a battery of tools and resources to carry out a group intervention in social and socio-health care centers . On the one hand, it includes a guide and a flexible intervention protocol, with guidelines and recommendations for good implementation. On the other hand, it provides a wide set of audiovisual resources , specially selected as powerful stimuli for the memories and emotions of vital events from the past of older people.
Examples of REMI projects are:
- Football-based REMI: football-focused reminiscence therapy for people with cognitive impairment and dementia, targeting a sector of the male population that does not tend to participate in psychosocial interventions in the community. Funded by the “Spanish Federation of Veteran Footballers’ Associations”
- REMI in residences: structured reminiscence therapy intervention in social and health care centers, including training of professionals in a proprietary program.
- REMI in the community: adaptation of a reminiscence therapy model in local centers with socio-cultural activities to prevent cognitive deterioration, promote socialization and promote healthy aging.
- LONG-REMI: technological application supported by Artificial Intelligence for Reminiscence Therapy based on intangible cultural heritage in a periodic, individualized manner and adapted to the needs of older people (without and with cognitive impairment).
