ICO digital health program with focus on psychosocial care to reduce the impact of cancer
The eHealth IConnecta’t program is a tool for screening, monitoring and managing oncological and emotional symptoms that allows for the sustained detection and monitoring of different variables, offering healthcare tailored to the needs of the oncological population. The application facilitates secure access to quality health information about cancer and incorporates a secure and private messaging system between professionals and users.
The tool follows a tiered intervention model, where the resources presented to the user vary according to their needs. There are 4 levels: the 1st is the detection of the need and its monitoring; the 2nd, a campus with psychoeducational resources carried out by healthcare personnel; the 3rd, a virtual community of psychosocial support between people suffering from the same illness; and, the 4th, group or individual psychotherapy through videoconferencing.
This digital health program of the ICO, coordinated by the Psycho-Oncology Service (Cristian Ochoa) and the Innovation Department (Tarsi Ferro García). Within this umbrella program there are several ICONnecta’t projects that provide psychosocial care to different oncological populations:
- IConnecta’t Mama: Digital ecosystem of psychosocial care in breast cancer (RCT completed pending publication and implemented at ICO Badalona).
- IConnecta’t Pulmó: Digital ecosystem of psychosocial care in advanced lung cancer. RCT underway. Protocol published.
- ICOgnition: Digital ecosystem for psychosocial and cognitive care in breast cancer. RCT underway. Published protocol.
- IConnecta’t Hematologic: Digital ecosystem of psychosocial care and clinical monitoring with wearables for patients who have received a hematopoietic progenitor transplant (implementation study published https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/38833696/ )
IConnecta’t has received international awards: 1) “Best digital solution in health” from the Avedis Donabedian Foundation, 2) Francisco del Pozo Award in Health Education from the European Institute of Innovation and Technology in Health (EIT Health). It has also received the official certificate and accreditation of “TICSalut Social” as a digital solution.
